Crafts and fellowship are enjoyed by visitors to the Lake Whitney Senior Center.
The Lake Whitney Senior Center (LWSC) was established in 2019 with the mission of improving the lives of seniors in a Christian environment.
Since its inception, the aim of the LWSC has been to demonstrate the love of Christ by providing social, spiritual and personal interaction to seniors in the Lake Whitney area.
They also provide opportunities for younger people to interact with and serve seniors by sharing in fellowship. The center offers regular prayer and devotions, the leadership of which is open to all area pastors.
On a weekly basis, lunch is provided through Meals on Wheels and various other charitable contributions. Snacks, coffee, tea and water are available. Other weekly activities include a music gathering, arts and crafts, puzzles, dominoes, cards, and a rocking circle outfitted with comfortable chairs. There is also a weekly Bible study.
Every other week the center holds a nighttime social that consists of a potluck dinner. Friends gather for tasty dishes and to exchange recipes. Dominoes and card games are available, along with corn hole toss. Partners can dance to fun music from the old days.
A completely free and confidential Cancer and Emotional Support Group is held once a month. Anyone who is dealing with illness or is a providing caregiver will find support among others who are tackling similar issues. The group is judgment free and offers concern and empathy.
Other events include the Lunch and Learn, provided by the Lake Whitney Chamber of Commerce.
Bingo is played once a month, where prizes are awarded to winners.
Guest speakers are invited to speak on a variety of topics relating to health, safety, quality of life and other pertinent issues.
The entire staff at the facility consists of volunteers from the community. Jean Drugan is the current director.
