All water meters within the city limits of Whitney will soon be replaced. The City of Whitney has announced that this upgrade to the public works system is now underway.
Installation, courtesy of Rubio Solutions, began on October 10. Citizens will be notified prior to installation and can expect a new cloud-based customer portal to be available to them, with which they may check their water usage and more.
Like any device, water meters wear out with time and have to be replaced. It is the responsibility of the city to ensure the delivery of a safe, reliable water source. It is also their responsibility to measure the usage of water, maintain accurate systems and provide responsible environmental stewardship.
The portal will help citizens identify water leaks and waste much sooner, preventing damage or excessive water bills. The technology provides critical analytics which help the city manage water utilities.
In most cases, citizens will not be required to be present as the replacement is done, as water meters are fully accessible from outside the home. The contractor will attempt to notify any occupants of a brief water outage lasting from five to 15 minutes.
Citizens are asked to keep meters clear of obstructions or debris. If the meter is inside of an animal-containing fenced area, citizens are asked that animals be secured.
Door hangers containing information about the change and how to access the portal will be left for residents.
