The Texas FFA Area 8 Leadership Development Events were held at Waxahachie High School Saturday, November 18, and one Whitney competitor is headed to state.
In Greenhand Creed Speaking, Claire Schneider of Whitney took second place and will advance to the state LDE contest. She also took fifth in the Junior Quiz competition.
The Whitney High School Junior Quiz team took fourth place overall at the area contest and was just three points away from a trip to state. Team members are Claire Schneider, Reed Schneider, Kambree Ward and Cayden Girsh.
Leadership Development Events (LDEs) focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization.
Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms.
All LDE events have elimination rounds at the district and area levels before the state level competition.
State LDEs will take place Friday, December 1, at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.
