David Holmes of Hillsboro recently filed paperwork with the Hill County Republican Party for a place on the March 2024 primary ballot. He is seeking his fourth term as county attorney of Hill County.
After serving as assistant county attorney for six and a half years under then County Attorney Mark Pratt, Holmes began his first term as the elected county attorney on January 1, 2013. He is now in his 18th year in the county attorney’s office.
Holmes is a native of Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1988. He then earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Texas A&M University in 1992 and his juris doctorate degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1996. After first practicing law in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Holmes returned to Hillsboro with his wife, Kelli, also of Hillsboro, in late 1998. He became licensed to practice law in Texas in 2002.
“It has been an absolute privilege to serve the citizens of Hill County in the county
attorney’s office over the last 17-plus years,” Holmes said. “I look forward to continuing to serve as the county attorney for many years to come, if I am entrusted with the office by the great citizens of Hill County.”
Holmes has served on numerous boards and committees in Hillsboro and Hill County, including the United Way, Hillsboro Education Foundation, Hillsboro Athletic Booster
Club, Aquilla Water Supply District, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and First Methodist
Church of Hillsboro.
He and Kelli raised their two children, Trey and Avery, in Hillsboro, where both graduated from Hillsboro High School and are now graduates of Texas A&M, like their parents. Professionally, Holmes has served as president of the Hillsboro Rotary Club, the Hill County Bar Association and is just finishing serving a two-year term as director of Region 8 of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association (TDCAA).
At the November TDCAA Elected Prosecutor Conference in Frisco, he was elected by his peers to continue serving TDCAA on its Executive Committee as its secretary/treasurer.
