The 2024 Hill County Fair is well underway in the county seat, with the Creative Arts Division now open to the public and swine and broiler shows on the schedule Wednesday, January 10.
The Hill County Fair Board invites the community to visit the fairgrounds and support area youth as they exhibit their creative arts, shop and livestock projects. Hill County 4-H will operate a concession stand throughout the fair, and attendees are encouraged to support the club. Purchases benefit 4-H events, contests, activities, day camps and other youth activities throughout the year.
Wednesday begins with the swine show at 8 a.m., and the broiler show will be at 3 p.m. Check-in for the broiler show will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The barn opens for cattle and tack from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday evening, and steer and heifer check-in will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday. Heifer and steer shows will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Friday will begin with rabbit check-in and weigh-in at 7 a.m., with rabbit shows getting underway at 10 a.m.
The Creative Arts Division auction will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, January 12, and the livestock auction will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 13. Those attending the auctions will have a chance to support local youth as buyers.
Buyers can support fair participants financially by either “purchasing” their project or sponsoring them with an “add-on.” Hill County Ag Youth Inc. is a 501(c)3, making all contributions tax deductible.
Those who would like to contribute an add-on but are unable to attend the auctions in person can visit the website http://www.hillcountyfair.org for an online option.
At the end of the fair, buyers will receive one invoice for all purchases and add-ons from both the creative arts and livestock auctions.
All previous buyers should already be registered in the system, but they are asked to stop by the registration table to confirm that the most accurate information is on file. Buyers can register the day of the auction beginning at 11 a.m.
The Hill County Fair Board will host a scholarship meal, which is open to the public, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday as a fundraiser. The K | K Enrichment Foundation is sponsoring the meal.
Previous buyers will receive two complimentary tickets for the meal at the registration table.
