Lake Whitney Arts (LWA) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and the first show of the celebratory season will be Robert Harling’s “Steel Magnolias” under the direction of Pam Dougherty.
The production will star Tiffany Patch, who is new to the LWA stage, as M’Lynn Eatenton. She is a certified public accountant (CPA) with her own practice in Granbury. Patch discovered her love of theatre through her daughter, Kendra, and says that she has been blessed to be able to share the stage with her many times.
Patch’s most recent performances have been: “12 Angry Jurors,” “The Odd Couple: Female Version” and “Miracle on 34th Street” at The Greater Cleburne Carnegie Players.
Connie Terry will take on the role of Truvy Jones. Terry is senior lending manager at Citizens State Bank in Whitney. An avid reader, she loves to hit the stage every chance she gets. She is a mother of four and grandmother of five. Connie has been involved with Tin Building Theatre in Clifton for the past several years, and this will also be her first show with LWA.
Other actresses taking the stage in “Steel Magnolias” include Allie Griffin as Annelle Dupuy-Desoto, Amberly Hadley as Ouiser Boudreaux, Gail Warren as Clairee Belcher and K Maraea Hokulani Brandow as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie.
LWA was founded in 2004 by people with a dream of building a place where the arts could flourish. A group of local citizens came together in support of the idea that the community could benefit from additional outlets that would encourage the area’s wide range of artistic talent. The group envisioned a venue that would showcase actors, artists, sculptors and others who contribute to the category known as fine arts.
The group originally began rehearsing in the Prairie Valley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. After performing its first shows at the Whitney ISD Auditorium, LWA was able to buy its own facility in Whitney.
Performances of “Steel Magnolias” are scheduled Saturday, February 10, and Sunday, February 11, and the following weekend: Friday, February 16; Saturday, February 17; and Sunday, February 18.
