Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced last week that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $980.9 million in local sales tax allocations for March, 2.2% less than in March 2023.
The City of Whitney’s March sales tax revenue totaled $71,076.54, up 12.87% from last March. For the first three months of 2024, Whitney’s sales tax revenue totaled $237,008.28, up almost 6%.
Hill County’s March allocation was $316,029.95, up 7% from last March. So far in 2024, the county’s sales tax allocations from the comptroller have totaled $981,948.27, down about 8% from the same time period last year.
In the county seat, the City of Hillsboro’s payment for March totaled $397,739.69, up 15% from March 2023. Year to date, the city’s allocations have totaled $1,246,133.83, down almost 15% from the same time period last year, according to the comptroller’s data.
Allocations and changes for other Hill County cities in March were: Abbott – $11,305.18, up 20.75%; Aquilla – $1,755.08, 18.74%; Blum – $3,184.96, down 2.79%; Bynum – $877.26, down 11.59%; Carl’s Corner – $5,682.96, down 4.08%; Covington – $6,108.77, up 4.86%; Hubbard -$19,093.77, up 5.74%; Itasca – $19,950.68, up 5.89%; Malone – $1,791.02, up 6.41%; Mertens – $562.42, up 23.30%; Mount Calm – $1,774.11, down 45.78%; Penelope – $666.31, up 0.80%.
Bosque County’s net payment this period was $71,147, up 2% from last March. Year-to-date numbers show Bosque County receiving $250,951.91 for the first three months of the year. That is also up about 2% compared to the same time period in 2023.
Bosque County cities received the following allocations: Clifton – $83,596.53, up 1.93%; Iredell – $2,764.42, up 11.26%; Cranfills Gap – $3,331.84, down 1.48%; Morgan – $3,506.90, down 2.37%; Walnut Springs – $5,605.35, up 9.55%; Valley Mills – $14,476.06, up 26.03%; Meridian – $19,742.30, down 16.87%.
These allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.
