
The Whitney High School Royelles drill team competed at the Danceline Hill Country Regional Competition in Fredericksburg recently, representing WHS with pride and bringing home awards.
Captain Annette Prado, 1st Lt. Raylee Thornton, Lt. Andrea Figueroa, senior Jaycee Green and freshman Olivia Delong competed with solos, and all five solos received Division 1 ratings.
As a team, the Royelles won the Platinum Sweepstakes Award for scoring 95 or higher (out of 100) on all routines, including contemporary, kick, military and hip hop.
The team also won first place, Best in Category awards in kick and military routines. They brought home the Precision Award for their military routine.
Whitney’s drill team earned the highest score of the day in the kick routine category, winning the Best in Category Champion Award.
The public is encouraged to see the group perform these routines at the upcoming Spring Show, along with the new 2024-25 team and Whitney High School Guardians.
The show is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m. in the Whitney High School gymnasium. Admission is free.
