Those who are not registered to vote and plan to cast ballots in local city and school elections on Saturday, May 4, must register soon to be eligible.
Texas law requires eligible voters to register by the 30th day before an election. The voter registration deadline for May elections is Thursday, April 4.
Both the City of Whitney and Whitney Independent School District will need elections to determine council and board seats, and Aquilla ISD has called a school bond election.
For the City of Whitney, the terms of council members Aimee Boswell, Martis Ward and Valery Peacock are expiring this year. Boswell and Peacock filed to retain their seats, and they will be joined on the ballot by Shawntay Owens, Vicki Wilson, Cheryl Taylor-West and Debbie Gregory.
There are three seats available on the Whitney ISD Board of Trustees, with the terms of Charles Buzan, Jason Sneed and Ray Watson expiring. All three incumbents filed to stay on the board, and also filing were Wayne Redding, Connie Terry and Larry Farmer.
The Covington city election has been canceled with the Place 3 spot on the council now uncontested. April Bradshaw and Rodney Russell were both seeking the seat, but Russell has since withdrawn his name from the ballot.
Aquilla ISD voters will decide a $12 million bond issue consisting of two separate propositions involving instructional and athletic upgrades. Voters will be able to support one or both propositions.
Voter registration in Texas is handled at the county level, and voters in Hill County can contact the Hill County Elections Administration Office at 254-582-4072 for more information.
An application can also be accessed online from the Texas Secretary of State and turned in to the county elections office.
Texans who have recently changed their name or moved can update their voter registration online at Texas.gov.
Those who are unsure if they are registered can visit the Texas Secretary of State’s “Am I Registered” portal to look up their registration in the statewide database.
You are eligible to register to vote if:

You are a resident of the county where you submit the application;
You are at least 17 years and 10 months old on the date your voter registration application is submitted, and you are 18 years of age on Election Day.
