The Whitney High School varsity softball team exited the playoffs after losing in the bi-district round to Malakoff two games to one.
After losing game one 10-6 Friday, April 26, the Lady ‘Cats forced a game three by downing Malakoff 6-1 Saturday, April 27.
In game two, Whitney got on the board first after Dani Page singled with an RBI and Shaela Smith doubled with an RBI.
The Lady ‘Cats added to the lead in the top of the second inning with an RBI-single by Bayley Brisco. Jaycee Green scored two runs on a base hit. Page added one run on a double base hit.
Smith gave a solid performance from the circle. She gave up one run on three hits, pitching seven innings and striking out one batter.
The forced game three was scheduled to follow immediately after game two Saturday, but thunderstorms postponed the contest to Monday, April 29.
The Lady ‘Cats looked like they might carry the momentum into game three as the contest remained scoreless for the first two innings. Malakoff kicked the door down in the top of the third, scoring six runs. Whitney struggled to recover, and the final score was 9-1.
The Lady ‘Cats finished the season as the third seed in District 17-3A with a district record of 5-3 and an overall record of 11-15-1.
