The Boys & Girls Club of Hill County has been serving local youth since 1996, providing children with fun and educational programs as well as meals, mentorship and important social opportunities.
After a huge fundraising effort that drew support from Hill County and beyond, the club has been able to expand its offerings at a new facility located at 209 Milford Road in Hillsboro.
The 20,000 square-foot building features a large gymnasium, a cafeteria and numerous areas dedicated to their respective programs.
Programs currently offered at the club include cosmetology, robotics, gardening, e-sports, chess, leadership, fashion, sports training, culinary and podcasting. In addition, the club offers assistance with homework and has recently started an English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
The club has seen rapid expansion recently and now serves children from around the county.
“I’m ecstatic about what’s going on,” said Interim Director Justin Derington. He also expressed his gratitude to the Hillsboro and wider Hill County community, stating: “They’re just amazing — all of them.”
Currently, 103 children are enrolled at the club for summer, and up to 150 children are expected to be enrolled during the fall semester. The fee to register a child for fall is $250, and registration for fall will end July 26.
The club will be open until 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Fridays, offering all-day care as Hillsboro Independent School District moves to a four-day school week this coming school year.
For more information or to register a child, call the club at 254-205-2046 or visit their website at bgchillcounty.org.
