Whitney Independent School District has scheduled in-person registration dates for new students, and instructions have been provided for returning students in grades three through 12 to be registered online.
New student registration will be conducted Tuesday, July 23, through Thursday, July 25. At all campuses, hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Assistance will also be available at these times for those who are having trouble registering returning students online.
Students entering pre-k through second grades will register using paper packets available on the Whitney ISD website or from the elementary school office.
To register a new student in the district, the following documents are required: Social Security card, birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency (utility bill or lease agreement); a parent/guardian driver license; and report card or withdrawal record from previous school (for third grade and above). Pre-kindergarten registration also requires proof of income or SNAP/TANF benefits.
For returning students, items needed include proof of residency, a parent/guardian driver license and any documents that may be missing from previous years.
Certain fees may be required for high school students. These fees include: an activity/ID fee of $25 that the school collects in lieu of holding fundraisers (these carry over each year with the student’s class and are used for prom, graduation and activities); a parking permit fee of $5 that is available if a student has a valid driver license and proof of insurance; and an optional student laptop insurance plan of $20.
Online registration for returning students will be conducted through the school’s Ascender Parent Portal system. From the summary page, click “Registration.”
Those who already have a Parent Portal account can log in to complete registration. To create a new account, select the “Grades Portal” option at the top of any page at http://www.whitneyisd.org and create an account.
The first day of school for Whitney ISD is Wednesday, August 14.
