The entry deadline for the Texas Troubadour Songwriter Classic at the Bosque Arts Center is Tuesday, August 20. Jimmy Fortune of Statler Brothers fame will serve as headliner and judge for the 2024 songwriter competition, which awards $3,000 in cash prizes.
Fortune will judge entries for the Song of the Year category, then perform with his band after judging finalists in the live event Saturday, October 26.
Fortune first joined the Statler Brothers as a temporary replacement for tenor Lew DeWitt. Fortune became a permanent member of the group in August 1982 when DeWitt’s health forced him to retire.
The new addition quickly made his presence felt, penning number one hits for the group such as “Elizabeth” and “My Only One.”
The two-part Troubadour contest is open to country music songwriters and singer/songwriters with $1,000 awarded for the Song of the Year and $1,500 and $500 for the Texas Troubadour and People’s Choice live performance awards, respectively.
Entry fees are $15 per song entry with an additional $15 fee for Troubadour live event consideration.
Ticket sales to Jimmy Fortune in concert at the Troubadour live event will be available online in September.
