The Heart of Texas Council of Governments is rolling out four new buses for its Blue Transit Rural Transportation program.
The buses offer low-cost, door-to-door pickup and drop off for residents in Bosque, Hill, Freestone, Limestone and Falls counties.
The new buses offer front-row handicap seating to improve comfort on bumpy rural roads, said Transportation Director Rep Pledger. “These buses are a smaller version of our previous buses, and they have several wheelchair securements,” Pledger said.
“The lower profile allows us to clear low branches on rural roads to keep them from hitting the bus,” Pledger said. “Blue Transit, or rural transit, is set up for anyone. They can go down the street to visit a friend, travel county to county, go grocery shopping or go to a doctor’s appointment.”
Blue Transit operates from 6 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday and uses the call line 254-292-1873 for residents to schedule their trips. For rural residents and residents with disabilities, Blue Transit is a service that allows riders to travel more simply and efficiently, with most rides costing less than $2.
Blue Transit operates through the Waco-based Heart of Texas Council of Governments. The mission of Blue Transit is to provide help with more trips for more people while providing cost-effective, high quality and safe transportation.
Blue Transit provides buses with a maximum of three wheelchair seats. Blue riders can plan trips weeks in advance for any commuting need, including but not limited to doctors’ appointments, beauty salons, work, school, groceries and much more.
