Whitney’s 2024 Veterans Day appreciation event has been scheduled for Monday, November 11, starting at 11 a.m. at Lake Whitney Senior Center.
All veterans and families of veterans are invited to attend, and the entire community is asked to honor veterans of the military who have served our country.
Keynote speaker will be Hill County Veterans Services Officer Brad Orban, who served in the U.S. Army and Navy.
The Whitney High School Jazz Band will play patriotic music, and Whitney High School Student Council members will serve as greeters.
One special display will be the “Missing Man” exhibit by Randy Bruhn, U.S. Army National Guard, SPEC 4.
There will be a Wreaths Across America table by DAR member Elizabeth Flores, U.S. Air Force E-4 Sgt.
Light refreshments will be served.
Principals organizing the event to honor veterans of the Whitney community include Fort Graham Chapter NSDAR Regent Susan Cook and members Beth Woolsey, Elizabeth Flores, Pamela Faulk, Teressa Bruhn, Margaret Mitchell and Linda Turner; and local veteran volunteer Marsha Riley.
Hosting the event is Denise Rogers, pastor of King Memorial Methodist Church, along with many church members in supporting roles.
The senior center is located at 503 North Colorado Street, behind King Memorial Methodist Church, near downtown Whitney.
