The Whitney Independent School District (WISD) Board of Trustees met in regular session Monday, December 9, and approved a one-time retention stipend for all district employees.
The $500 checks were distributed to WISD faculty and staff members last week.
WISD Business Manager Tamara Harrison provided an overview of the district’s 2023-24 Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report.
FIRST is a Texas Education Agency program designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources in order to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.
The district received a rating of 96 out of 100, indicating superior achievement.
Staff members of the month were as follows: elementary school teacher Holly Lewis; intermediate school teacher Kim Camp; middle school paraprofessional Debbie Clay; and high school teacher Mindy Estill.
Students of the month were: elementary school student Brittian Mitchell; intermediate school student Zariah McGill; middle school student Baylor Bauer; and high school student Penelope Corbin.
Resigning was Whitney Elementary School Student Success Coordinator Sara Ripley, effective at the conclusion of the 2024-25 school year. Jessica Claridy was hired as a second grade teacher. Enrollment stands at 1,439.
The next board meeting will be held Monday, January 13, at 6 p.m. in the WISD Administration Board Room, located at 305 South San Jacinto Street.
