Funeral services were held for former Hill County Judge Kenneth Davis Saturday, January 11, at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
Davis served as county judge from 1998 until his retirement on December 31, 2006. Prior to that, he was a county commissioner for 19 years, beginning his first term in 1971.
Davis was also a local farmer in Itasca and had worked as a teacher and coach, educating students in Whitney, Hillsboro and Everman.
He also worked in college athletics, coaching women’s basketball at Hill College and Texas Christian University. He served as dean of students at Hill College before running for county judge.
During last week’s Hill County Commissioners Court meeting, County Judge Justin Lewis asked commissioners to keep Davis’s family in their prayers. “He was a good Christian man and a dedicated public servant, and we appreciate what he’s done for Hill County,” Lewis said.
Davis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria; his son, Harley and wife, Sherry; and two grandsons, Nolan and Joseph Davis, all of Itasca.
Memorials may be made to Hill County Christian Academy, 702 FM 309, Hillsboro, Texas 76645.
Davis was laid to rest in Itasca Cemetery following the funeral service.
