Lake Whitney Yoga and Lone Star Healing Arts & Fitness are two local businesses working to improve wellness in the community.
Lake Whitney Yoga, located at 200 North San Jacinto, was established in 2024, and Lone Star Healing Arts & Fitness came to town in 2022.
Yoga instructor Elissa Loren had never planned to own a yoga studio. She commuted weekly to Waco to teach yoga and occasionally taught pop-up classes around Whitney. When the opportunity presented itself to open a studio, she felt it was the right thing to do to help get Whitney moving again.
Elissa and her employee, Emily, have been practicing yoga for over a decade. They have both received their 200-hour yoga instructor certification.
Lake Whitney Yoga offers a variety of classes. Whether you are searching for movement, fitness, stillness or mindfulness, they have something for you. Classes help with balance, weight loss, stress reduction, flexibility and strength.
Prior to opening Lone Star Healing Arts & Fitness, Elizabeth and Mat Wetherbee had dreamed of opening a wellness center where they could share their skills with the community to support wellness, especially for elders.
Elizabeth offers occupational therapy services and fascia therapy for pain relief to help with a range of physical impairments, including back pain, nerve-related pain and digestive issues. She also teaches tai chi classes. Mat offers personal training services and teaches kung fu.
All classes are adaptable to all abilities, including those who are not able to stand for long periods of time.
The first class is free at both studios. Lake Whitney Yoga offers pay-as-you-go community classes on Fridays at noon and Saturdays at 9 a.m.
Both locations offer a warm, welcoming environment that supports members wherever they are in their journey. Whether young or elderly, they offer classes that are accessible to a wide range of ages and abilities.
Elissa, Elizabeth and Mat felt that there was a great opportunity to work collaboratively to grow the wellness community in Whitney by offering yoga, tai chi, kung fu and personal training in the center of downtown. Stop by to check out their offerings and let them know how they can best support your journey to better health.
