Hill County Day at the State Capitol in Austin is set for Wednesday, March 19. Every two years, local chambers of commerce host a trip to allow Hill County residents to see the Texas Legislature at work.
The biannual trip to the Texas State Capitol is attended by local citizens and community leaders with coordination by local chambers of commerce.
Hill County Day is held in conjunction with every regular session of the Texas Legislature. The trip is designed to inform, inspire and connect the people and issues of Hill County with elected representatives and key agency officials.
Those making the trip can expect to sit in on the Texas House and Senate in session and hear presentations from state officials and key agencies.
A chartered bus will be available to transport those who would like to ride with the group.
The bus will leave Historic City Hall in downtown Hillsboro at 6:30 a.m. and be in Austin in time for the opening of the House at 10 a.m. and the Senate at 11 a.m. A group photo will be taken at 11:45 a.m.
Lunch will be served at noon, and those expected to speak include Representative Angelia Orr, Senator Brian Birdwell and representatives from the Texas Education Agency, Texas Department of Transportation and Texas Space Commission.
The group will depart Austin at 3:30 p.m., with an expected return time of 6:30 p.m.
The fee to attend and enjoy lunch and activities is $40 for those riding the bus and $30 for those driving their own vehicle.
Sponsors of the event are Atmos Energy, Rise Broadband, Hilco Electric Cooperative, Oncor and Citizens National Bank of Hillsboro.
