The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Hill County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of a fire that claimed the life of one individual early Friday, March 21.
Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and saw the double-wide mobile home in the 200 block of HCR 2109 engulfed in flames at approximately 2 a.m.
Whitney Fire Chief Wayland Price said that the structure was fully engulfed upon arrival, with no way for firefighters to make entry into the residence.
One occupant of the home was pronounced deceased by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Trey Jetton, who ordered an autopsy for positive identification of the body.
Price said that no other occupants were believed to be in the home.
Firefighters were on scene until approximately 7 a.m. and responded for a rekindle later in the morning.
Firefighters and personnel from Whitney, Lakeview, Aquilla, 2604, Peoria and White Bluff responded.
