Judge Justin Lewis was sworn in to serve as judge of Hill County’s 66th Judicial District Court Friday afternoon, April 4.
Governor Greg Abbott appointed Lewis to fill the seat, which was vacated when Judge Lee Harris was appointed to the Tenth Court of Appeals.
Abbott announced the appointment Tuesday, February 25, and the transition had been pending Senate confirmation until last week.
Lewis, of Aquilla, had served as Hill County judge since January 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Development from Texas A&M University and a Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan School of Law.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve Hill County as county judge since 2007,” said Lewis. “It was the best education one can receive as I was able to learn so much from so many wonderful people. I’ve enjoyed most every minute and will be forever grateful to the people of Hill County that put their trust in me.”
Lewis said that he has big shoes to fill in his new role and thanked Judge Bob McGregor and Justice Harris for presiding over his investiture Friday.
The Hill County Commissioners Court was scheduled to meet Tuesday morning, April 8, and consider appointing a county judge. That meeting had not occurred as of The Lakelander’s press time. See next week’s edition for more information.
