The City of Hillsboro has announced a schedule for its upcoming “Mallmageddon” event to commemorate the history of Hillsboro’s outlet mall and celebrate its upcoming redevelopment. Events will run from Thursday, April 17, through Sunday, April 20.
Demolition of the majority of the mall is expected to begin by June as Hillsboro city officials work with a developer on multiple retail and restaurant prospects for the site.
“Mallmageddon” will be a chance for locals to gather on the formerly bustling mall property and remember its heyday with 1990s-themed events and family fun.
The following events and activities have been announced by the organizers:
-Carnival by Triple T Amusements at the north mall parking lot; Thursday and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The carnival will feature rides, games and concessions.
-Pop-up 90s Dance Club at Suite 177, formerly Starter; Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight. The club will feature a variety of music from the era and require a $10 fee for entry.
-Rage Room at Suite 173, formerly Jockey; Saturday only, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The room will feature a variety of objects to destroy, free of cleanup or consequences. Tickets are $30 for a party of one up to six, and are limited in number. A bottle toss will also be held at the location from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
-Rewind Lounge at Suite 175, formerly Subway; Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. to close. The lounge will feature a 90s-themed hangout with classic MTV videos, blacklight posters and a graffiti wall that participants can paint. Entry to the lounge will be free.
-Pop-up 90s Country Karaoke Bar at Suite 174, formerly Claire’s; Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight.
-Retro Video Game Trailer; Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. The trailer will feature classic arcade and console video games; no fee required.
-Tony’s Backyard BBQ; Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
-Bubble Bus Co. Mobile Bar; Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The bar will serve drinks popular in the 90s, such as Purple Passion, Strawberry Hill and Zima, reinvented and served with a side of nostalgia.
-The Mallseum at the Main Mall Office, formerly the “vending machine room”; Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Mallseum will feature a large collection of photographs, relics and artifacts from the mall’s heyday; free entry.
