

Two council members took oaths of office to begin their terms during a special meeting of the Whitney City Council last week, but the outcome of the mayoral race was pending the result of a recount scheduled for Tuesday, May 20.
Judge Trey Jetton administered the oaths to incumbent Jason Ince and new council member Amy Teal. Ince won re-election with 115 votes, while Teal narrowly defeated incumbent Sam Pierce for a seat by a 79-76 vote.
Unofficial election night results showed incumbent Mayor Janice Sanders trailing challenger Zach Hamlin by one vote, 75-74. Hill County Elections Administration released numbers Friday, May 9, showing Sanders ahead by one vote (76-75) over Hamlin after all provisional and mail ballots were tallied.
