Covington Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Christopher Heskett informed the community last week that he has accepted an employment offer from Slidell ISD.
Dr. Heskett is the lone finalist for the position in Slidell, which means he is in the mandatory 21-day waiting period before his new position is official.
“I remain committed to supporting you and our students throughout the remainder of my time here,” the superintendent wrote in a letter to the community. “I will also do all I can to assist the Board of Trustees in planning for a smooth leadership transition.”
Dr. Heskett said he came to the decision after much thought, reflection and consideration with his family.
“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together,” he wrote. “From academic innovations to enhanced student support, many facility upgrades and the bond passage for new facilities. The progress we’ve made is a testament to your hard work and commitment to excellence. I have every confidence that this district will continue to thrive and grow.”
Dr. Heskett was hired as Covington superintendent in 2017, after serving as Valley View High School principal for nine years.
