Charges filed against Hill County Precinct 2 Constable Justin Girsh have been dismissed after he was accused of misusing official information.
Girsh was indicted on the third-degree felony charge in 2023 after it was alleged that he disclosed a tax search and seizure warrant to an individual when it had not been made public. The case was presented to the grand jury by Bosque County District Attorney Adam Sibley and Texas Ranger Jake Burson.
Sibley submitted the motion for dismissal June 25, saying that there did not appear to be sufficient evidence for a conviction. Presiding Judge Dib Waldrip then ordered the case dismissed.
Girsh’s attorney, Brittany Lannen of Lannen Law, PLLC, said last week that Girsh was targeted in a prosecution built on hollow accusations and minimal effort.
“Investigators failed to even pull surveillance footage installed by the county just days before the alleged offense,” Lannen said. “To mask the weakness of the case, a civil removal suit was filed attempting to remove my client from office prior to any findings on the criminal allegations. But the people of Hill County spoke louder and more clearly than back alley politics — reelecting him, unopposed.”
The civil suit that was filed in an attempt to remove Girsh from office was also dismissed.
“This week justice prevailed in both the criminal dismissal and the civil non-suit,” Lannen said.
Girsh said that he wants to thank his constituents, family and friends for their support. “I want to thank those that maintained their professionalism throughout the past 18 months,” the constable said. “I will continue to proudly serve as your Precinct 2 constable.”
