The Hill County Commissioners Court met in a regular session Tuesday, July 8, and voted to pursue litigation over the construction of the Hill County AgriLife Extension building.
The court convened in closed session for legal consultation before voting when open session resumed to file a lawsuit against ICE Construction, LLC, citing faulty construction of the building.
Construction of the new building on Stadium Drive in Hillsboro started in February 2022, and offices moved from the Covington Street Annex to the new facility in March 2023.
The project was part of an overall effort by the county to reduce its footprint and improve facilities.
No further details about the issue were provided after commissioners resumed open session.
Commissioners voted to reappoint Brad Daniels to the Prairielands Groundwater Conservation District Board of Directors for a term to expire August 31, 2029.
The district develops rules to protect existing wells, prevent waste, promote conservation and provide a framework to protect groundwater for the future in Johnson, Ellis, Hill and Somervell counties.
The court approved the renewal of a memorandum of understanding between the sheriff’s office and the Child Advocacy Center. The agreement allows the parties to collaborate during investigations of crimes against children.
The court approved an agreement with Motorola to update hardware and software related to the sheriff’s office computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system. Information Technology Director Phillip Cantrell said that it is time to update the system, which is close to six years old.
