The Whitney City Council will meet in a special session at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 11, to hold public hearings on the city’s proposed tax rate and budget for the coming fiscal year.
The council has proposed the no-new-revenue rate of $0.5764 per $100 valuation. That is a decrease from last year’s rate of $0.6505 and will result in a decrease in revenue from last year’s levy of $3,732.
Because the city is proposing the no-new-revenue rate, a public hearing is not required, but Operations Director Billy Pribble said that one will be held anyway in the interest of transparency.
The council will vote on adoption of the budget following a public hearing on the document. A copy of the budget is available for public viewing on the home page at http://www.cityofwhitneytx.org.
The council will consider several other agenda items during the special session.
The financial responsibilities of the city and Friends of the Library related to the library will be discussed, and revisions to the existing Park Board ordinance are on the agenda as the city prepares to reorganize a board.
The council will vote on requesting support from the Texas Municipal League for legislation clarifying the ability of Type A General Law cities to accept donations.
A special event permit submitted by Texas Takeover will be reviewed, and Library Card Sign Up Month will be discussed.
The meeting will be held at the Lake Whitney Public Library, located at 602 East Jefferson Avenue in Whitney.
