The Dorothy Gaines Foundation recently announced grant awards for 2025 totaling $68,500 to 11 non-profit organizations.
Mrs. Gaines was a native of Hill County who lived the majority of her life in Fort Worth but always considered Hill County her home. The foundation was originally established in 2003 with the primary purpose of promoting quality of life in Hill and Tarrant counties.
Grants up to $10,000 are awarded annually for specific projects, building and capital-improvement campaigns or for general purposes where organizations are working to combat social problems, elevate the family and contribute to the social, economic and cultural wellbeing of Hill and Tarrant counties.
The recipients are:
CASA of Hill County – $10,000 (Hiring additional advocate supervisor for CASA of Hill County);
Covington Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.- $5,000 (Purchase devices to stabilize wrecked vehicles to create a stable work platform during rescue operations);
Hill County Kids – $10,000 (Purchase food items for kid-friendly meals and snacks);
Hill County Paw Pals – $2,000 (Purchase standardized housing units for small dogs);
Hillsboro Heritage League – $5,000 (Purchase poles and signs for local historical marker program);
Hillsboro Lions Club – $5,000 (Assist in the purchase and installation of shelter structure over ADA-accessible playground for Hillsboro City Park);
Lake Whitney Ministerial Alliance – $6,500 (Replace shelving, chairs and tables);
Mentors Care – $6,000 (Pay costs associated with connecting high school students with mentors in Hillsboro High School and Brewer High School);
Whitney ISD – Whitney High School – $6,500 (Purchase student desks and chair sets for science lab collaborative education);
United Way of Tarrant County – $10,000 (Assist in funding of staff helping indigent households prepare and file personal income tax returns);
Community Partners of Tarrant County, Inc. – $2,500 (Purchase jeans and back-to-school supplies for students in CPS system in Tarrant County).
