A shootout with authorities ended in the death of a male subject north of Hillsboro Monday, November 24.
The Hill County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were conducting a welfare check on an individual in the 400 block of HCR 4243 when a man armed with a handgun confronted them at the door.
The individual reportedly drew the gun and pointed it at a deputy, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
The sheriff’s office reported that additional deputies responded, followed by more gunfire. The subject was struck and died of his wounds.
One deputy sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene, and there were no other injuries sustained by law enforcement.
Hill County Sheriff Hunter Barnes said that under the department’s policy, he has requested a Texas Rangers investigation, and the three involved sheriff’s deputies will be on administrative leave pending the outcome.
