The public is invited to a wreath-laying ceremony as this year’s Wreaths Across America event is held at Whitney Memorial Park Saturday, December 13, at 10 a.m.
Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine wreath maker Morrill Worcester in 1992.
Donors support the effort by sponsoring a wreath to be placed on a veteran’s grave at cemeteries throughout the nation. Each year, citizens around the country come together to honor those who have defended our country and way of life in a manner that shows they are not forgotten even when have passed away.
The organization’s yearlong mission – Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve, Teach the next generation the value of freedom – is carried out, in part, each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at thousands of participating locations in all 50 states and beyond.
