Three Hill County Sheriff’s Office deputies have been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing in the recent officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a Hill County man.
District Attorney Mark Pratt, Texas Ranger C.T. Fox and a Hill County grand jury cleared the deputies Friday, December 12.
The shooting occurred as deputies were conducting a welfare check in the 400 block of HCR 4243 north of Hillsboro Monday, November 24. As deputies arrived on scene, they were confronted at the door by a man armed with a handgun.
According to reports, the man pointed the gun at a deputy, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The man was struck and died from his wounds. One deputy sustained minor injuries, but no other injuries were reported.
The three involved deputies had been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, in accordance with the department’s policies.
