The Whitney Independent School District Board of Trustees met in regular session Monday, January 12, and approved an early resignation incentive plan for educators.
The $250 incentive is designed to allow the district to post jobs sooner in the event that an educator has decided to resign or retire, and it will be available for teachers who tender their expected resignation before February 12.
The board approved the final results of the district’s annual audit from accounting firm JRBT, in which a “clean” or unmodified opinion was delivered.
Property bids totaling $3,845.87 for lots in the White Bluff area were approved, as well as local Texas Association of School Boards policy updates. Also approved was the establishment of non-business days for public information requests.
In accordance with House Bill 2, requiring all Texas educators to be certified by 2027, the district approved a plan for the delay of teacher certification requirements to the 2029-30 school year in order to account for newly hired employees. The plan is available in full at whitney isd.org and will be submitted to the Texas Education Agency for approval in the near future.
Students of the month were as follows: elementary school student Emma Jones, intermediate school student Jameison Hamlin, middle school student Kase Ripley and high school student Jonathan Nava.
Staff members of the month were: elementary school staff member Susan Corbin, intermediate school teacher Erin Cadena, middle school counselor Lindsey Threadgill and high school teacher and coach Joe O’Hearn.
Enrollment stands at 1,428. Resigning or retiring was Jennifer O’Dell. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 9, at 6 p.m. in the WISD Administration Board Room, located at 305 South San Jacinto Street in Whitney.
