A Hillsboro man was arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter after a pedestrian was struck and killed near Whitney Tuesday, March 31.
Department of Public Safety troopers and local first responders were dispatched to the scene on Farm Road 2604 near Farm Road 933 just after 11 a.m.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Ryan Howard, the driver of a westbound Jeep sport-utility vehicle drove onto the shoulder of the roadway and struck a female pedestrian. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Howard said that the driver of the Jeep, James Thomas, 56, of Hillsboro, was determined to be intoxicated. He was arrested for felony intoxication manslaughter and booked into the Hill County Jail.
DPS is withholding the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
