The Whitney Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing beds for children in need, held a community build Saturday, February 15. The event saw 40 volunteers come together and build 27 beds for donation.
“This build would not have been possible without the generous grant SHP Whitney received from the Dorothy Gaines Foundation,” said Chapter President John Jaskie.
In addition to the beds built, the grant allowed the chapter to purchase 12 bedding sets and 12 pillows for twin-size beds.
“Because of this grant, we will be able to get so many children out of undesirable sleeping conditions,” said Jaskie.
The organization has been able to expand its operations to Hillsboro, Itasca, Covington, Blum and Peoria in addition to Whitney.
