Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced last week that he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.4 billion in local sales tax allocations for May, 7.7 percent more than in May 2025.
Whitney’s sales tax allocation for May was $118,858, up 25 percent compared to last May. So far in 2026, the city’s allocations are up 22 percent, with $525,902 received to date.
Hill County’s May allocation came to $416,533, down about 7 percent compared to last May. Year to date, the county’s sales tax payments have amounted to $1,964,613, about the same as the same period in 2025.
In the county seat, Hillsboro’s May payment came to $563,861, down about 6 percent compared to last May. Year-to-date totals come to $2,534,694, up about 2 percent compared to the first five months of 2025.
May allocations and changes for other Hill County cities include: Abbott – $13,572.06, down 58.23 percent; Aquilla – $2,079.44, up 12.33%; Blum – $4,919.78, down 5.61%; Bynum – $1,184.85, down 5.13%; Carl’s Corner – $7,490.43, up 28.62%; Covington – $8,805.58, up 22.50%; Hubbard – $41,548.98, down 0.02%; Itasca – $42,049.87, up 28.39%; Malone – $4,917.74, up 83.02%; Mertens – $768.15, up 64.03%; Mount Calm – $2,471.09, up 11.03%; Penelope – $1,487.73, up 8.46%.
Bosque County’s May allocation was $133,820, up about 43 percent compared to last May. So far in 2026, Bosque County’s allocations have totaled $576,097, up about 26 percent from last year.
May allocations for Bosque County cities were: Clifton – $169,524.39, up 54.37%; Cranfills Gap – $5,156.55, up 35.34%; Iredell – $3,646.84, up 67.18%; Meridian – $34,318.99, up 15.13%; Morgan – $4,952.86, down 10.70%; Valley Mills – $20,372.14, up 7.96%; Walnut Springs – $9,607.50, up 7.89%.
These allocations are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.
