The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the identities of the adults killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 171 Saturday, June 20, that claimed six lives.
The crash occurred near Farm Road 3155 between Bynum and Malone when a northbound Nissan passenger vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle, crashing into an approaching Ford van. Both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived.
DPS Sergeant Ryan Howard said that the occupants of the van who were killed included: 37-year-old Amanda Fowler, 59-year-old Sarah Johnson, an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, all Hillsboro residents. A 10-year-old boy in the van was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
Hillsboro Independent School District notified families that all of the children were students at the elementary campus.
Also pronounced dead at the scene were occupants of the Nissan: Sallie Evans Benson, 67, of Fort Worth and Marvin Evans, 50, of Fort Collins, Colorado.
Howard said that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
