The Hill County Commissioners Court observed and recorded the appointment of Martin Dudik to the Precinct 3 commissioner’s seat Tuesday, July 28.
County Judge Shane Brassell made the appointment after the Republican Party precinct chairs considered applicants to replace Scotty Hawkins, who recently submitted his resignation.
Dudik is a Penelope resident and agricultural producer whose family is active in the community. He previously served as maintenance director at Aquilla ISD.
Because of the timing of November’s election, the seat will be on the ballot in the general election, with Dudik, Democratic Party candidate Sarah Martin, a rancher from Hubbard, and any write-in candidates who file competing for the position.
The winner will serve the remainder of the unexpired term, and the seat will be back before voters in 2028.
