The Whitney Wildcats varsity boys basketball team lost to Palmer 60-39 in a Class 3A bi-district championship game played in Italy Tuesday, February 18.
The early moments of the contest were tight and physical. Palmer sank a pair of three pointers back-to-back to take an early 13-6 lead. The Wildcats ended the first quarter with a shot from the arch that made the score 15-10 Palmer.
A more physical first half would be hard to find as both teams rarely found an uncontested look at the basket. The score going into the half was 26-18 Palmer.
The third quarter began with Whitney draining the net from three-point land. Palmer answered with a shot from downtown of its own. The flow of the game seemed to slow at the start of the half, but the fevered pace that marked the first half returned as both teams relentlessly pursued the ball. Palmer went on a streak to end the third period, and the score was 45-35 Palmer as the fourth began.
The Bulldogs added six unanswered points to start the final frame and nursed a 20-point lead for most of the quarter.
Delvion Walter led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 points. Jacob Lessman contributed seven points, and Mason Seely had five points on the night.
