Christie Rogers has been selected by the City of Whitney to serve as director of Lake Whitney Public Library. Rogers had been serving as interim library director since former director Denise Carter retired last October.
“I came into the library back in April of 2024 looking for eclipse glasses and left with a library card and a desire to volunteer here,” Rogers said. “I volunteered for a few months, jumped at a part-time job when it was offered and then was honored when asked to fill in as interim director. Needless to say, I am thrilled to take on this role officially. I like to say my being here is a ‘cosmic event’ (pun intended).”
Rogers and her husband moved to Whitney in late 2020 to complete renovations on her family’s fishing cabin, which has stood on the edge of Corps land since the 1950s. “We love the small-town pace and all the people we have met here,” she said.
Rogers and her husband are the parents of four adult children, and they have one granddaughter with another grandchild on the way.
Rogers retired in 2021 after 21 years at a large telecommunications company. She has a background in corporate training and program and product management with an emphasis on customer experiences.
“I know there are some big shoes to fill here,” Rogers said. “My goal is to build connections in the community by increasing the number of programs we sponsor, connecting citizens to local resources and working with local experts to offer some new series, such as Life Lessons and Skill Shares.”
Rogers said that she wants the library to offer something for everyone.
“My core belief is that the library is a place to connect: to the community, the world, to knowledge, to an experience, or just to yourself,” she said. “The best thing about working here is that the people coming in are looking for something and we can actually make a difference for them by either filling that need or directing them to a resource that can.”
