Hill County Clerk Nicole Tanner has announced that her office is partnering with the Property Fraud Alert website to offer free real-time monitoring and notification of fraudulent activity.
Tanner said that preventing mortgage fraud and identity theft is a top priority of her office.
The clerk’s office has made a conscious effort to be on the lookout for suspicious records that may indicate a criminal is recording a fraudulent deed, making it appear as if they own your home.
Once a criminal does this, they can use your name as collateral on a mortgage or even attempt to sell your home to an unsuspecting buyer.
Visit the website http://www.propertyfraudalert.com to sign up for the free service. Click on “begin here” to register. Complete the registration form and submit.
The service will notify you if a document is recorded in your name either by email or phone, according to your selected preference.
