State Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last week as assistant secretary of war for sustainment.
Birdwell was nominated to serve as an assistant secretary of defense by President Donald Trump last year.
In an announcement Monday, May 18, Birdwell said that he is in the final period of his service to District 22 before taking the oath of office and beginning his work at the Pentagon.
“As I prepare to depart, please know that there will be a functioning SD 22 state senate office and constituent services will continue,” said Birdwell. “Staff members will remain in place both in district and in the capitol to assist you until the new senator arrives.”
After serving in the U.S. military, Birdwell was elected to the Texas Senate in a 2010 special election. The six-term state senator announced last June that he would not seek another term serving District 22, which includes Hill County.
