Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced last week that he will send out $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for July, 5.6 percent more than in July 2025. Locally, Whitney has seen a large jump in its rebates this year.
The City of Whitney’s July sales tax allocation was $100,468, up almost 20 percent from last July. So far in 2026, the city’s sales tax proceeds have amounted to $715,885, which is about 19 percent higher than this time last year.
Hill County’s July payment was $436,238, up over 6 percent compared to July 2025. Year-to-date figures show the county receiving $2,927,149 so far this year, an increase of almost 4 percent compared to 2025.
In the county seat, the City of Hillsboro’s July allocation came to $538,828, up 6.67 percent compared to last July. Year to date, the city’s allocations have totaled $3,553,251, up just under 2 percent compared to the same time period last year.
Allocations and changes for other Hill County cities in July were: Abbott – $11,207.51, down 15.56%; Aquilla – $1,683.62, down 18.08%; Blum – $4,349.04, up 1%; Bynum – $825.02, up 5.45%; Carl’s Corner – $2,547.69, down 51.43%; Covington – $7,794.96, up 14.11%; Hubbard – $30,626.45, down 12.04%; Itasca – $31,526.14, up 20.57%; Malone – $3,040.02, up 44.90%; Mertens – $546.60, up 28.77%; Mount Calm – $2,182.51, up 27.16%; Penelope – $743.03, down 1.02%.
Bosque County’s July allocation was reported to be $131,391 this month, which is up 51 percent compared to last July. Year to date, Bosque County’s payments are up 32 percent, for a total of $837,299 through July.
Allocations and changes over last July for Bosque County cities included: Clifton – $182,458.56, up 109.79%; Cranfills Gap – $4,773.75, up 24.27%; Iredell – $4,679.75, up 28.12%; Meridian – $26,919.64, down 1.12%; Morgan – $4,256.75, down 16.84%; Valley Mills – $15,751.68, up 16.27%; Walnut Springs – $7,294.09, down 13.33%.
These allocations are based on sales made in May by businesses that report tax monthly.
