Hill County volunteer fire departments have battled 32 grass fires since August 1 as hot, dry conditions persist in the county. A drop-off location has been established for residents who would like to donate sports drinks to keep firefighters hydrated on the scene of fires.
Gatorade and other hydrating sports drinks can be dropped off at the Hill County Support Services building, located at 218 North Waco Street in Hillsboro. Donors may also choose to make a donation directly to their local volunteer fire department.
As always, other donations of money, time or support of fundraisers are always appreciated by local fire departments.
Over 85 percent of Texas fire departments are staffed by volunteers who leave their jobs, families and other obligations whenever a fire, medical emergency or other incident is reported.
The Hill County Commissioners Court was set to consider extending the county’s burn ban at a Tuesday, September 1 meeting.
